Welcome to The Collaborative Law Institute of Missouri

The Collaborative Law Institute of Missouri, Inc. is an association of professionals committed to resolving family disputes through non-adversarial procedures. Its members include attorneys, mental health professionals and financial specialists.

Collaborative Law is an exciting new approach to divorce and other family legal disputes. In the Collaborative Law process each spouse is represented by an attorney hired to advise the client and achieve a negotiated settlement in a context of full and open disclosure where the goal is a fair and equitable resolution of all issues. A team of related professionals can be available to work with the family and the attorneys providing coaching in communication, guidance on child issues and practical assistance with financial matters. The parties and the professionals agree not to litigate the dispute or participate in court proceedings. The focus and energy and resources of all involved in the process is on creative problem solving based on a sound legal foundation. This model offers a divorce process which protects the dignity, integrity and long term best interests of all family members.

Getting Started

If you think Collaborative Family Law may work for you:

Contact one of the professionals on the contact list who is a member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Missouri, Inc. for further information or to schedule a conference.

Talk to your spouse about Collaborative Law and share this information.

You and your spouse and both attorneys will sign a Collaborative Family Law Participation Agreement specifying the rules and procedures.

Advantages

Each party has a skilled advisor at every stage of the process who understands how to forge creative settlements. The client is never on his own; his or her counsel is there to explain issues and help the client achieve his or her goals.

Everyone in the process agrees in advance to work only toward a settlement which meets the priorities of both parties and is in the best interests of the post-divorce family. Game-playing and taking advantage are not permitted.
